Our Story & Philosophy

Preserving Your Legacy, Protecting Your Origins

2008

The Beginning

Started in a cramped office downtown with nothing but a dream and a beat-up desk. I'd seen too many families torn apart over inheritance disputes - watching folks who once shared holiday dinners fighting over grandma's china. That wasn't right. Someone needed to step in before things got messy, and I figured why not me?

Marcus Chen

Marcus Chen

Founder & Senior Estate Counsel

Been practicing estate law for 17 years now. Got my start helping my own family navigate my grandfather's estate - that experience showed me what real people actually need, not just what the textbooks say.

Growing Pains

Word got around faster than expected. Turns out people actually want lawyers who talk like humans, not walking law dictionaries. We moved to a bigger space on West Georgia and brought on Sarah - best decision I ever made. She gets the emotional side of things while I'm buried in documents.

Trust Administration Specialist

I handle the complex trust work that makes most people's eyes glaze over. Former tax attorney who realized I'd rather help people protect their wealth than just report it. Coffee addict, trust enthusiast.

Finding Our Voice

This is when we really figured out who we were. Not just another stuffy law firm churning out cookie-cutter wills. We started focusing on what we call 'legacy conversations' - sitting down with families, really listening to what matters to them. Sometimes it's not about the money at all, it's about making sure mom's garden stays in the family or that dad's business continues the way he built it.

Probate & Dispute Resolution

The mediator of the bunch. I'm the guy who steps in when things have already gone sideways. My goal? Getting families back to talking instead of fighting. Joined the team in 2016 after getting tired of courtroom drama.

Adapting & Evolving

Pandemic hit everyone hard. We learned to do virtual consultations without losing that personal touch - turns out you can still have meaningful conversations over Zoom if you actually care. Added digital document management that actually works. Some clients prefer meeting in person, others love the convenience of sorting their affairs from home. We do both now.

Estate Planning Associate

Newest member of the crew. Came from corporate law where everything felt sterile. Here, I actually get to know clients as people. Specializing in succession planning for family businesses - keeping the legacy alive matters to me.

Where We Are Now

Still in that same suite on West Georgia, though we've expanded a bit. We've helped over 800 families navigate the tricky waters of estate planning and inheritance. Some cases are straightforward, others get complicated - but every single one matters. We're not the biggest firm in Vancouver, but we're definitely one of the most human. And that's exactly how we like it.

What Actually Drives Us

Real Conversations

We ditch the legal jargon and talk like normal people. Your estate plan should make sense to you, not just to us.

Preventive Care

We'd rather spend time now setting things up right than watch your family fight it out later. An ounce of prevention, you know?

Family First

At the end of the day, it's about protecting relationships and honoring what you've built. The paperwork is just the tool.
